Photovoltaic Solar Panels
A solar panel is essentially a collection of sophisticated photovoltaic cells. When light from the sun directly interacts with a single silicon cell, it sheds electrons which become a flow of electric current in the system. This process generates DC or Direct Current which is then sent to a state-of-the-art inverter. At that point, it is converted into AC, or Alternating Current, which most homes use to run indoor lights and appliances.
There are several ways to mount or array photovoltaic panels. The one that is right for you will depend on scale, location, energy usage, and your goals. Most solar electric systems are mounted on rooftops. However, not every building has an ideal profile or structure to support solar panels. Outbuildings offer an alternative or other open areas, if you have enough property, may be suitable for a ground mount array.
